DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, Dec. 11 (PIA) -- The Dumaguete City Health Office (CHO) is intensifying its awareness campaign on HIV amid the increasing number of cases in the city. The city government has allocated a total of P400,000 as annual budget for trainings, seminars, IEC awareness campaign, and the distribution of hygiene kits, said Dumaguete City Health Officer Dr. Sarah Talla. In an interview with the Philippine Information Agency here, CHO HIV/AIDS Coordinator Lorelie Ignacio reported that the city has recorded 188 HIV cases based on the data from the Provincial Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (PESU) of the Provincial Health Office. The cases in Dumaguete City are cumulative from 1984 until July 2023. Of the total, 23 are new cases logged in July 2023, said Juniefe Amada of PESU who noted that the number of HIV cases are increasing.
