DENR to mark Tañon Strait Protected Seascape anniversary

According to TSPS ecosystems management specialist Joselito Francis Alcaria, DENR plays a vital role in managing the Tañon Strait’s expansive 534,589.04-hectare marine ecosystem. One of the largest marine protected areas in the Philippines, the Tañon Strait belongs to the ecoregion with the highest marine diversity in the world. DENR urges public to adopt sustainable tourism practices

  DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) urged the public to adopt sustainable tourism practices to protect the natural tourist spots from the ill-effects of climate change. This was emphasized by DENR provincial environment and natural resources officer Viernov Grefalde in a recent climate forum, where he also warned that the province’s tourism sector will suffer if there will be continued degradation of the environment. “Tourism, being heavily reliant on national resources and the environment, is intricately linked to climate patterns,” Grefalde said. He explained that climate change could alter the natural landscape and ecosystems in the province. Changes in the temperature and precipitation patterns could also affect local vegetation and wildlife, which could diminish the bio-diversity here. DENR7 consults CSOs for national budget

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, March 20 (PIA) -- The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Region 7 has conducted the 4th of a series of consultations and workshops among the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Dumaguete City. This is part of citizen participation in the budget process relative to agency’s programs and projects 2024 budget proposal. Regional Executive Director Paquito Melicor, Jr. of DENR7 stressed that peoples’ participation in the budget process leads to a responsive budget allocation and improve implementation of agency’s delivery of environmental protection services. Siquijor joins World Wetland Day

  SIQUIJOR, Siquijor Feb. 7 (PIA) -- Increasing water supply,  reforestation, clean and healthy environment are few of  the primary goals of the series of tree-growing activitities and clean-up drives that several groups here conducted. DENR7 calls for wetland protection and conservation

CEBU CITY, Cebu Feb. 1 (PIA) --The Department of Environment and Natural Resources 7 (DENR-7) has urged the local community, local government units (LGUs), and other stakeholders in Central Visayas to help protect and conserve the remaining wetlands in the region. The call is in line with this year’s observance of "World Wetlands Day" on February 2 with the theme "Wetland Restoration". The agency is asking for public support, especially from those communities near wetlands, to contribute to the preservation of these areas, as it has a significant impact on mitigating the effects of climate change.
