BSP urges LGUs to adopt cashless transactions

  TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, (PIA) — The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) is urging local government units (LGUs) to adopt cashless transactions.  BSP deputy director for payments policy and development department Maria Christina Masangkay, said they are promoting digital payments as it allows everyone in the community to benefit from financial inclusion.  BSP, together with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), earlier issued Joint Memorandum Circular 1-2022 which outlined the guidelines for LGUs to participate in the Paleng-QR PH program.  Launched in 2019, the Paleng-QR PH works as a person-to-person or person-to-merchants exact payment system.  The program aims to promote the adoption of digital payments in wet markets and public transport and help vendors and consumers feel safer in their financial exchanges.  “QR PH is the national QR code standard that allows fast, low-cost methods to pay, transfer and get funds from other banks and e...

Philippines ready for digital adoption, says Bangko Sentral

  CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) -- With a large population of digital native young Filipinos and the growing number of Filipinos in general who are using digital transactions, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) said the Philippines is ready for digital adoption.  According to Maria Lourdes Jocelyn S. Pineda, vice president of the Digital Bank Association of the Philippines, 72 percent of the Filipino population belongs to a large digital native young population who are 40 years old and below.  “We also have a high consumptive population ages 15 to 65 years old,” added Pineda during the BSP’s 5th Regional Macroeconomic Conference Series (RCMS) held recently in Cebu. Pineda said the increasing popularity of digital payments is the result of BSP’s efforts towards financial inclusion.  “Digital banks are the result of BSPs’ push for financial inclusion. BSP brings Piso Caravan to Bohol

  TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, July 18 (PIA) -- The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Visayas Regional Office brought its Piso Caravan program to the province of Bohol to replace unfit and mutilated bank notes and coins. The four-day caravan, which kicked-off on July 18 at the Old Tagbilaran City Airport, aims to ensure that people’s money are safe and clean. BSP urged the public to replace their unfit currency with fresh banknotes and coins during the caravan.  For July 18 and 19, the caravan will be at the Old Tagbilaran City Airport from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  This is in line with the Sandugo Agricultural Fair 2023 activity in partnership with the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh). BSP urge e-wallet users to be vigilant

Dr. Felipe Medalla said although digital banking in the country is safe, account holders must remain cautious and vigilant against criminals. Medalla said this in light of the recent incident involving unauthorized fund transfers of Gcash, in which approximately P37 million worth of account holders' money was transferred to two accounts in different domestic banks without the owners' consent. Medalla said that it was a phishing incident, not hacking. Hacking is the illegal access to one's information.   SIQUIJOR, Siquijor, May 16 (PIA) -- The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Visayas Regional Office will conduct the BSP Piso Caravan BSP Piso Caravan on May 20, 2023, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, at Siquijor Capital Square, Municipality of Siquijor. BSP forms Siquijor Bankers’ Club, presents Polymer banknotes

SIQUIJOR, Siquijor, May 20 (PIA) -- The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) formed on May 20 the Siquijor Bankers’ Club following the election of officers during its maiden meeting for 2022.  The meeting was spearheaded by the team from BSP’s Office of the General Counsel and Legal Services (OGCLS) led by Atty.
