TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, January 2 (PIA) – The Social Security System (SSS) is targeting to enroll the newly-elected barangay officials to be the next set of beneficiaries for the government’s social security coverage. This was disclosed by SSS Chief Executive Officer and President Rolando Ledesma-Macasaet during the Stakeholders’ Forum in Bohol recently. Macasaet said SSS has been looking at the possibility of increasing the system’s 42 million members. Barangay officials, even if they are government workers, do not have employer-employee relationship and are not eligible for the government service insurance system. Once they enroll with SSS in their first term of office, a barangay official will only need 12 more months of contribution to have a fully matured policy.
