DA puts up P50M disaster-proof rice seed storage facility in Ubay

UBAY, Bohol, June 1 (PIA) -- The Department of Agriculture (DA) Region 7 delivered the government’s commitment to reduce rice production losses with a modern P51 million disaster-proof monolithic dome rice seed storage facility it built in Bohol. Built inside the a government property dedicated to agriculture development and research, the rice seed storage facility is better than the seven conventional seed storage facilities in the Central Visayas, according to the DA7. The facility uses a dome type of roof, reinforced with iron rebars and polyethylene caulked by airfoam technology that has been designed to withstand 270-kilometer winds. It is built to withstand typhoons, earthquakes, and other natural or man-made calamities including fire, and could potentially safe-keep harvests against calamities as long as it is stowed inside the facility, said Jenelyn Yuson, builder of the multi-million facility. Comelec reminds 2022 polls candidates to file SOCE

DOH7: Cover water containers, prevent rising dengue cases

CEBU CITY, Cebu, June 1 (PIA) -- Though it is practical to store water with the onset of the rainy season, the Department of Health (DOH) Region 7 is urging households to ensure water containers are aptly covered, amid the rising cases of dengue and a fear of a possible outbreak this year based on historical trend. Dr. Ronald Buscato, medical officer III of DOH 7, said the aedes aegypti (AE) mosquito that carries the dengue virus thrives on uncovered water containers, laying eggs on its walls which then hatch when submerged in water. “Although dengue is no longer exclusive during the rainy season but is an all-year round disease,” said Buscato, but added that the practice to store water during the rainy season can multiply dengue cases to alarming levels. DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, May 30 (PIA) -- Members and pensioners of the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) can now keep track of their member, loan, and claim records in their mobile devices through the GSIS Touch App. GSIS Vice President for Visayas Operations Deity Manampan urged members and pensioners in Negros Oriental to download the application, which he described as similar to a GSIS kiosk but more handy and convenient for the user. “If you have your GSIS touch, there’s no need for you to go to a GSIS branch 24/7. SEC advances crackdown on illegal online lending

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is moving forward its crackdown on unauthorized and abusive online lending activities, starting this year’s campaign with several individuals operating unregistered online lending applications. In a joint operation on Feb. 12, the combined forces of the SEC Enforcement and Investor Protection Department (EIPD) and the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) successfully implemented a warrant to search, seize and examine computer data in Cashtrees Lending Corporation’s office in Pasig City.
