U.S. Embassy holds EducationUSA University Fair in Cebu

CEBU CITY, Cebu, October 13 (PIA) -- To provide an avenue for Cebuano students, parents, and school administrators to gain relevant information about the opportunities in pursuing international education specifically in the United States, the U.S. Embassy conducted its 4th Education USA University Fair in Cebu on October 12.

The one-day free public event featured 23 U.S. colleges and universities that showcased their undergraduate and graduate programs, admissions procedures, scholarship programs, and financial assistance options.

The participating U.S. higher education institutions also offered assistance on student visa applications and other useful study-related resources.

According to the U.S. Embassy, the activity also aimed to expand the network of Filipino international students in the United States by bringing educational opportunities closer to the students and educators who aspire to study abroad.

An average of 3,000 Filipinos travel to the United States each year for educational purposes.

In 2022, there were 3,400 Filipinos who traveled to study in the U.S., an increase of 12.8% since 2022.

In the same year, there were 1,545 Filipino international students who studied undergraduate courses, while 1,236 studied graduate programs.

The top U.S. destinations for Filipino students include California, New York, Hawaii, Massachusetts, and Montana.

U.S. Embassy Deputy Public Engagement Officer Pauline Anderson, who led the opening of the EducationUSA Fair in Cebu, explained why it is important for aspiring students to come to the said study fair.

“The US. Embassy’s EducationUSA Advising Team is available to help you navigate the process of applying to U.S. universities with free and unbiased information. The resources and time they provide can help you navigate the application process,” Anderson said.

“To the students here, you completed the first steps to quality U.S. education today by coming here to seek answers to your questions, to meet with university representatives, and to assure your parents that you will be okay getting on that plane to pursue your studies,” she added.

Aside from providing information related to U.S. education institutions,  EducationUSA also offered other services such as monthly group online advising, parent conferences, student consultations, and guidance counselor training programs.

The EducationUSA University Fair in Cebu was also attended by representatives from different scholarship organizations in the U.S. and some consular officers of the U.S. Embassy.

Prior to the event in Cebu, the EducationUSA Fair made its first stop in Manila on October 10. (RGC/PIA7 Cebu)
