NGAs in CV commit to support PDP 2023-2028

CEBU CITY, Cebu, April 28 (PIA) -- Over 70 directors and representatives of regional line agencies in Central Visayas pledged their commitment to fully support the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2023-2028 of the Marcos Administration, through the implementation of their respective programs and projects to achieve the vision of a predominantly middle-class society by 2040, otherwise known as “Ambisyon Nation” 2040.

Undersecretary Mark Cristeo Roa Gimenez of the Presidential Management Staff (PMS) urged the Cebu-based regional directors and representatives to strengthen their collaboration at the local level and the need to align and support each other’s programs, projects, plans and activities in the attainment of the administration’s vision of inclusive growth towards a prosperous Philippines.

“Sama-sama tayo babangon muli,” Gimenez said, quoting the popular phrase of President Ferdinand Marcos during the first-ever “Meet and Greet with the Central Visayas Heads of Government Agencies,” on April 27, 2023 initiated by the PMS.

Aside from signing their support through a Commitment Wall, the attendees also inked their signature on a Pledge of Commitment Form to signify their all-out support to cooperate, collaborate and support each other’s programs and initiatives, and to work harmoniously together for the betterment of the Central Visayas Region and the country as a whole.

Prior to the commitment signing, the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) 7 briefed the participants on the highlights of the economic blueprint for the next six years, including the policies, strategies, and legislative priorities in line with the President’s eight-point socio-economic agenda.

According to NEDA 7 assistant regional director Maria Sotheleen Padilla, Central Visayas was the fourth fastest regional growing economy in the country with a gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate of seven percent during the pre-pandemic level or from 2016 to 2019. However, the Covid-19 crisis in 2020 plunged our hard-won efforts, she said.

As we move forward post-pandemic, Padilla said the PDP 2023-2028 serves as the blueprint in the next six years to guide us in steering back the economy to a high-growth path.

Padilla also presented the highlights of the Regional Development Plan for Central Visayas, align with the PDP, with the overall goal of reinvigorating job creation and accelerating poverty reduction.

Reinforcing the goal of the PDP is the President’s eight-point socio-economic agenda namely:  Protect purchasing power and mitigate socioeconomic scarring, Reduce vulnerability and mitigate scarring from the Covid-19 pandemic, Ensure sound macroeconomic fundamentals, Create more jobs, Create quality jobs, Create green jobs, Uphold public order and safety, peace and security, and lastly, Ensure a level playing field.

The 8-point socioeconomic agenda aims to reduce poverty incidence to 9 percent by 2028 or by the end of the President’s six-year term. (fcr/pia7)
