PNP7 on heightened alert for Holy Week, CNN anniversary

CEBU CITY, Cebu March 30 (PIA) -- The Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO-7) has heightened its security measures for the CNN or Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) Anniversary and Holy Week.

CNN marks their 54th anniversary on March 29.

PRO7 Regional Community Affairs Development Division (RCADD) Assistant Division Chief PLt.Col. Carlos Lacuesta Jr. admitted during the Kapihan sa PIA that there is still an insurgency problem in Region 7, but due to their enhanced counter measures, atrocities have become limited.

Lacuesta added that the PNP is on alert status for possible CNN sightings and street rallies.

For Holy Week, PNP will deploy 4,000 policemen in Region 7.

Police assistance will be present in highly congested areas like malls, ports, terminals, resorts, and churches, the police official said.

Police assistance desks in church entrances will also be deployed.

He advised the public to refrain from wearing expensive jewelry in crowded areas and ensure the safety of their homes by unplugging electric appliances and locking their homes before leaving.

“You could also ask a trusted neighbor to watch over your property,” he added.

PNP will deploy more than 70,000 of its police force nationwide. (MYP/PIA7)
