DSWD7 releases over P10M for educational aid

CEBU CITY, Cebu, Sept. 2 (PIA) -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development Region 7 (DSWD7) released P10,515,000 for educational assistance during the second week of payout.

On Aug. 27, there were 3,307 students who received the assistance of which 1,975 are college students, 381 are senior high school students, 454 are high school students, and 497 are in elementary.

The second week’s payout caters to online applicants from different cities and municipalities in the region.

Only those who received a text or email confirmation from DSWD-7 were accommodated during the payout.

"We are grateful for the full support and cooperation from the local government units (LGUs) because we were able to successfully conduct the payout in the different areas,” said DSWD-7 OIC Regional Director Shalaine Marie Lucero.

She also acknowledged the presence of the Philippine National Police and the Bureau of Fire Protection for providing security and safety for all beneficiaries and DSWD staff during the payout.

It may be recalled that the DSWD signed a deal with the Department of the Interior and Local Government to tap local government units (LGUs) to provide venues, manpower, security and logistics to guarantee the seamless and expeditious distribution of educational assistance.

“We will continue to collaborate with LGUs and other partner stakeholders to ensure the orderly, efficient, and safe distribution of aid to students in crisis while adhering to existing minimum health and safety protocols amid the ongoing pandemic until the last Saturday of the educational assistance payout,” Lucero said.

DSWD-7 will announce the schedules and venues in the succeeding payouts, especially for those who did not receive text or email confirmation and for areas not covered in the previous payout.

The beneficiaries are encouraged to bring their supporting documents, which include a registration or enrollment certificate, a valid ID of their parent or guardian, and a valid ID of the college or vocational education student who will receive it.

They should also bring two photocopies of every requirement.

The educational assistance is under the DSWD’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations, which provides aid to students in crisis to pay for their school fees, school supplies, projects, other fees, and allowance. (HFG/PIA7 with reports from DSWD7)
