PRESS RELEASE: DOST Siquijor turns over check for tech upgrading to MSME

A check under the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) was turned over from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-7) through Siquijor Provincial S&T Center to Joseph Buhian, proprietor of Jovick Lumber Yard Furniture Center.

The funding aid is for the project “Furniture processing technology upgrading for Jovick Lumber Yard Furniture Center for increase production and improve quality furniture items.” 

The activity was done on Sept. 10, 2021 at DOST Siquijor Provincial S&T Center led by Provincial Director Engr. Mario de la Peña. 

The fund is intended for the acquisition of efficient furniture processing equipment to enhance the product quality and increase productivity of Jovick Lumber Yard Furniture Center, which is located at Campalanas, Lazi, Siquijor, through upgrading of its furniture processing technology. 

If successful, the project will introduce efficient furniture wood-working equipment to the firm, enable the application of efficient plaining and carving technologies for quality and intricate design of wooden furniture, increase wooden furniture production and enhance product quality, enhance skills of furniture workers, reduce the firm’s production reject from 15% to 5%, and increase gross income by 60% based on 2020 production. OCD-7: ‘Only OCD can hold incident command system trainings’

  DepEd Secretary hails education as 'solution' More remote schools have been reached by Smart Communications, Inc.’s mini portable classroom School-in-a-Bag, bringing learning technologies to far-flung areas to help facilitate quality basic education in last-mile schools. Among these schools is Dobdob Elementary School (ES) which is situated in the farthest barangay in Valencia, Negros Oriental. It is 80 kilometers from the town proper and is only accessible by 4-wheel drive vehicles. Dobdob ES has a total of 128 students, most of whom are children of farmers. These students often arrive with their shirts drenched in sweat, because they help their parents on the farm before coming to school.
