CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) — The Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) Field Services Office (FSO) Cebu is set to partner with two hospitals in Central Visayas for improved access to medical services of the Filipino veterans in the region.

PVAO Cebu is set to ink a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) in Cebu City, Cebu and Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Medical Center (GCGMMC) in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

PVAO FSO Cebu head Reggie Sabandal said this is in line with their agency’s aim to establish additional 19 veterans’ wards in the country.

"We also did our part in (terms of) lobbying for the MOA with respective private and public hospitals for the enhancement of veterans’ wards... Our vision and goal is that no veteran shall pay their own medical expenses and needs,” Sabandal said during the 13th episode of the ‘Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas’ hosted by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA).

Sabandal explained that they already had an existing MOA with VSMMC, but it was called off during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Actually, (the MOA with) Vicente Memorial Medical Center is already existing. So right now, we are only renewing the MOA with them,” she said.

“Our (goal) in PVAO is augmenting or enhancing the existing facilities of Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, which is planned to be implemented by 2025,” Sabandal said.

As of August 2024, PVAO in Central Visayas serves 4,509 pensioners in Cebu, 1,045 in Bohol, 1,281 in Negros Oriental, and 187 in Siquijor.

PVAO was one of the featured agencies during the 13th episode of the ‘Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas’ program, a platform initiated by the Presidential Communications Office through PIA.

The activity serves as a platform to amplify public understanding and engagement with the national government’s programs and projects through the different implementing government agencies.
