SIQUIJOR, Siquijor (PIA) -- The provincial government of Siquijor has announced available slots for patients needing hemodialysis for free.

The Mendero Dialysis Center at the new Provincial Hospital in Caipilan, Siquijor has been catering to patients undergoing dialysis so that they no longer need to travel to another province to seek the medical procedure.

Interested patients who wish to avail of the free hemodialysis are urged to visit the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) in Caipilan, Siquijor town to secure their slots.

‘Not a single centavo’

A dialysis patient since 2021, Rhiza Mae Maghanoy, 30, from Polangyuta in Siquijor town, is grateful to the provincial government for the healthcare facility.

“Thankful kaayo ko kang Guv nga iya gyung gi-open ang proyekto sa dialysis dinhi sa Siquijor kay kon wala gud siya nag-open, wala ko kabalo kon asa ko karon mangita ug kuarta, mahal kaayo (ang dialysis). Karon very privileged kaayo ang mga pasyente sa Siquijor kay libre tanan, wala na gyud kay hunahunaon, kundi imong mga tambal,” said Maghanoy.

(I am thankful to the Governor that he opened the dialysis project here in Siquijor. If he had not done that, I don't know where I would find the money to pay for the costs because dialysis is very expensive. Siquijodnon patients are privileged because everything is free, you don't have to think about anything but your medicines.)

Another dialysis patient, Clifford Jack Tuastumban, 46, from Brgy. Catulayan in San Juan town, thanked the government because he does not have to pay a single centavo for his procedure.

“Very happy. Nagpasalamat pud ko ni Congressman (Zaldy Villa) ug ni Guv kay libre gyud ang dialysis sa Siquijor. Wala gyu’y bayad bisan singko centavos,” said Tuastumban.

(I am also thankful to Congressman Zaldy Villa and to Guv for the free dialysis. You don’t have to pay a single centavo.)

Healthcare initiative

Launched in 2022, the dialysis center is one of the healthcare initiatives implemented by the provincial government.

“Tumong nato nga makatabang sa mga pamilya nga naay dialysis patients, making all their sessions free. Dili tanang probinsya naa ani nga libreng serbisyo,” said Villa.

(Our goal is to help all families who have dialysis patients and make their sessions free. Not all provinces have this free service.)

“Our people are our biggest wealth so ang maayong panglawas sa atong katawhan gitagaan nato gyud ug dakong prioridad sa atong proyekto ug program. I have personally seen how our dialysis patients need all the help and support they can get, and then I ask, ngano man tuod wala dialysis center sa atoa? So, I pushed for it and now the dialysis patients no longer have to cross the sea,” asked the governor.

(Our people are our biggest wealth, so we prioritize their health. I have personally seen how our dialysis patients need all the help and support they need, and I ask, why is there no dialysis center here?) (RAC/PIA7 Siquijor)
