IACAT-7 to launch 18-day campaign to end VAW

 


CEBU CITY, Cebu, Nov. 8 (PIA) – The Inter Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking 7 (IACAT-7) will hold the18-day campaign to end violence against women (VAW) to raise public awareness and support on efforts against VAW.

The 18-day national advocacy campaign will be on November 12 to December 5, where various activities will be done along with different partner agencies, private organizations, and stakeholders.

Among the programs lined up for the said campaign are consultation dialogues with the provincial women focal persons in Central Visayas, orientation on Gender Equality and Sexual Inclusion (GESI), Legislations on Women Protection and Empowerment, VAWC Caravan of Services, and Care for DSWD Solo Mothers.

The campaign also aims to educate the public with updated information on laws protecting women and girls, such as the Anti-Violence Against and Their Children Act of 2004 (RA 9262), the Anti-Rape Law (RA 8353 as amended by RA 11648), the Safe Spaces Act (RA 11313), the Anti-Sexual Harrassment Act of 1995 (7877), and the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2022 (RA 9208 as amended by RA 11862).

According to the 2023 Global Gender Gap Index Report by the World Economic Forum, the Philippines continues to lead as the most gender-equal country in Asia with 79.1% gender parity.

This places the country at 16th out of 146 countries worldwide.

However, based on the 2022 Philippine National Demographic Health Survey released by the Philippine Statistics Authority, 18% of women aged 15–49 years have experienced any form of physical, sexual, or emotional violence by their recent husband or partner.

This suggests that violence and abuse continue to exist among women and children in the country.

With the 18-day national advocacy campaign, the IACAT-7 aims to instill awareness about VAWC and gather support from other groups and institutions in upholding the rights of women and children.

The campaign is also in line with Republic Aact 10398 or an “Act Declaring November 25 of Every Year as National Consciousness Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Children. (RGC/PIA7 Cebu)

'Barangayanihan' caravan bares accomplishments under PRRD

EMB 7 creates composite team for water sampling

The Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) 7 of the Department of Environment Natural Resources Central Visayas on Tuesday, Dec. 28, has created a composite team for water sampling in the different parts of the region affected by Typhoon "Odette" (International name: Rai). The EMB 7 deployed two teams conducting ambient water sampling in the Northern Cebu (Liloan area, Consolacion, Mandaue and Mactan Coastal Area) and Southern Cebu (Cebu Port Area, Talisay, Naga and San Fernando). The bureau said the first two samples from Punta Engaño near Movenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu and Umapad, Mandaue City near the bridge and Petron) taken last Dec. 23 and 24 were brought to Ostrea Laboratory since the EMB laboratory cannot analyze due to no electricity.
