P18-M DOLE livelihood grants released to NegOr

DUMAGUETE CITY,  Negros Oriental, Aug. 15 (PIA) -- The municipality of Tayasan and Bayawan City have received livelihood assistance worth P18 million from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Aug. 11, 2023 in Cebu City.

Labor and Employment Sec. Bienvenido Laguesma personally turned over the checks worth P13.8 million to Tayasan Mayor Susano Antonio Ruperto and P3.7 million to Bayawan City Mayor John Raymond.

The DOLE-7 shelled out a total of P18M to fund the livelihood projects of the two local government units (LGUs) in the province.

The grant assistance for Tayasan beneficiaries include 24 workers’ associations, 34 parents of profiled child laborers, and 58 various projects that are mostly agricultural tools, jigs and equipment, shirts, printing service, and bakeshop.

For Bayawan City, the grant will benefit 50 ambulant vendors who will be given a Negosyo sa Kariton (NegoKart Livelihood Assistance Package), 74 parents of profiled child laborers, and 124 various projects that would range from NegoKarts, mechanized egg production, and motorized pump boats.

Speaking before the attendees during the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of the DOLE-7/DOLE RCC-7’s Health and Wellness Center where the livelihood grant release was also made at the Penthouse of the DOLE-7 Building last week, Laguesma thanked the DOLE-7’s LGU partners for making it a priority to help those who are in need in their respective community.

“I am particularly heartened by the fact that beneficiaries included the parents of child laborers. Gusto po nating mawala ang child labor dito sa ating bansa. Nagagalak din ako na kasama din ang mga persons with disabilities pero alam nating lahat na most of us ay persons with dedication,” the Secretary said.

DOLE-7 Regional Director Lilia Estillore also lauded the Negros Oriental Field office (NOFO) headed by Officer in Charge Ma. Teresa Tanquiamco for closely collaborating with the LGUs of Tayasan and Bayawan.

“By closely working together with our partner-LGUs, it would become easier for us to reach out to those who truly need help. I am happy because these partner-LGUs will also help us monitor the implementation of the projects and make sure that they go to further heights and become lasting,” Estillore said.
