NTC7, telcos to hold remote SIM registration in Moalboal, Cebu

CEBU CITY, Cebu, Jan. 24 (PIA) -- The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) in Region 7 will lead the conduct of the remote SIM registration in the Municipality of Moalboal on Jan. 25. 

 

The event is part of the three-day nationwide facilitated SIM registration from Jan. 25 to 27 in various remote areas in the country. 

 

According to NTC7 Legal Officer Atty. Allan Macaraya, Moalboal was chosen as the pilot area in the region as it has weak or no access to internet connectivity. 

 

A short program will be done at the Moalboal Municipal Hall after which the registration will be done for free and open to the public. 

 

The nationwide SIM registration aims to boost the implementation of Republic Act 11934, also known as the Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) Registration Act. 

 

It is spearheaded by the Inter-Agency Committee on SIM Registration, together with the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) along with the three major telecommunication companies, namely: Smart, Globe, and DITO. 

 

Other agency members that will provide the necessary support are the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT), the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), the Department of Education (DepEd), the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), the Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

 

The facilitated SIM registration will cover 45 remote areas across 15 regions nationwide, where the lead agencies and the telcos will deploy registration booths and touchpoints to assist residents with their SIM registration and to address their queries and concerns regarding the process.

 

A priority lane for senior citizens and persons with disabilities will also be provided in order to fast-track their own SIM registration.

 

Signed into law in October 2022, the SIM Registration Act mandates all subscribers to register their SIM within the prescribed deadline of April 26. 

 

This aims to combat the continued increase of text, online, scam and spam messages in the country, which is one of the primary advocacies of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and his administration. (RGC/PIA7 Cebu)

EMB 7 creates composite team for water sampling

The Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) 7 of the Department of Environment Natural Resources Central Visayas on Tuesday, Dec. 28, has created a composite team for water sampling in the different parts of the region affected by Typhoon "Odette" (International name: Rai). The EMB 7 deployed two teams conducting ambient water sampling in the Northern Cebu (Liloan area, Consolacion, Mandaue and Mactan Coastal Area) and Southern Cebu (Cebu Port Area, Talisay, Naga and San Fernando). The bureau said the first two samples from Punta Engaño near Movenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu and Umapad, Mandaue City near the bridge and Petron) taken last Dec. 23 and 24 were brought to Ostrea Laboratory since the EMB laboratory cannot analyze due to no electricity.
