2nd TESDA-Daikin HVAC training center to open in Cebu City

CEBU CITY – More Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) scholars in the Heating, Ventilation, and Air conditioning (HVAC) sector are set to benefit from the agency’s continued partnership with a Japanese air conditioning company. 

On May 18, TESDA Sec. Isidro Lapeña, together with Daikin Philippines President Takayoshi Miki, announced the establishment of the HVAC Training Center inside the TESDA-7 Compound in Cebu City, the second in the Philippines.

The HVAC Training Center in Cebu City is part of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between TESDA and Daikin Philippines which was signed on July 15, 2021.

The first HVAC Training Center was opened in December 2021 inside the TESDA Complex in Taguig City.

TESDA-7, as part of the agreement, will give a facility in the Regional Training Center (RTC) Cebu that Daikin will renovate into a state-of-the-art HVAC Training Center by devising and executing higher-level certification training programs to generate employees trained in air-conditioning installation and maintenance.

In his message, Lapeña expressed hope that TESDA and Daikin will soon produce highly-equipped Filipinos in the HVAC sector.

He also thanked Miki and Daikin Philippines Training and Product Manager Justin Aaron Sy for the expansion of the TESDA-Daikin partnership to provide industry-driven training programs, particularly in the HVAC sector.

“This training center will surely provide a higher level and industry-driven HVAC training programs that will provide more opportunities for the Cebuanos and neighboring provinces in the HVAC sector with the passion to improve their services and promote employment opportunities in the HVAC sector,” the TESDA chief said. 

The RTC-Cebu is expected to offer the Commercial Air-conditioning Installation and Servicing NC III starting in the fourth quarter of 2022.

It is set to produce around 100 fully-equipped technicians per year once it is operational.

Also present during the launching were Deputy Director General for TESD Operations Lina Sarmiento, TESDA-7 Regional Director Gamaliel Vicente, Jr., and RTC-Cebu Chief Wilkie Reroma. (PR)

EMB 7 creates composite team for water sampling

The Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) 7 of the Department of Environment Natural Resources Central Visayas on Tuesday, Dec. 28, has created a composite team for water sampling in the different parts of the region affected by Typhoon "Odette" (International name: Rai). The EMB 7 deployed two teams conducting ambient water sampling in the Northern Cebu (Liloan area, Consolacion, Mandaue and Mactan Coastal Area) and Southern Cebu (Cebu Port Area, Talisay, Naga and San Fernando). The bureau said the first two samples from Punta Engaño near Movenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu and Umapad, Mandaue City near the bridge and Petron) taken last Dec. 23 and 24 were brought to Ostrea Laboratory since the EMB laboratory cannot analyze due to no electricity.
