DSWD-7 turns over 9.5M community sub-projects

The said LGUs include La Libertad, Siaton, Manjuyod, Guihulngan City, Sta. Catalina, Mabinay, Jimalalud, Bindoy, and the cities of Tanjay and Bais. (PIA/DA Negros Oriental) DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, April 25 (PIA) -- With the Gulayan sa Paaralan Program (GPP) in the province, physical and mental alertness have improved among undernourished students in Balugo Elementary School. According to GPP coordinator Noel Ramirez, a noticeable progress was observed among undernourished students after being fed regularly with vegetables from the GPP program which started in 2019. Ramirez said 33 students in Balugo were identified with acute malnutrition or low weight for height based on Philippine health standards. The situation qualified their school to be a recipient of the GPP program. Canteen coordinator Irene Calugcugan said they serve cooked vegetables to the undernourished students every day with varying menus. DOLE-7 distributes Kabuhayan grants

CEBU CITY, Cebu, April 25 (PIA) -- The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 7 recently distributed livelihood assistance or Kabuhayan grants to six associations in Danao City, Cebu. The associations that received the assistance are Maslog Men and Women Workers Association, Kabanay Workers Association, Sidlak-Juana Workers Association, Cahumayan Farmers Association, Looc Fishermen Association, and TawsanGuinsay Fishermen Association. The total livelihood grant amounted to P2.5M which will be used to finance their different livelihood projects. The Sidlak-Juana Workers Association and Kabanay Workers Association were given P500,000 and P200,000, respectively, for their bakery project. Meanwhile, the Maslog Men and Women Workers Association received P300,000 which will be used to buy kitchen utensils for their catering services. SSS stages back-to-back RACE operations in Cebu

CEBU CITY, April 22 (PIA) -- The Social Security System (SSS) visited erring employers in its back-to-back Run After Contribution Evaders (RACE) operations in the cities of Cebu and Talisay on April 22. Sixteen employers were identified based on the reports of SSS Cebu and SSS Talisay branches, citing violations under R.A. 11199 or the Social Security Act 2018. The 16 employers were tagged for non-remittance of contributions and non-reporting of additional employees. A total of P6,288,541.17 premium contributions is expected to be collected from the operations. SSS Visayas Central 1 Division Head Atty. Alberto Montalbo said SSS is coordinating with various local government units (LGUs) to identify more delinquent employers and monitor their compliance as mandated by the law. NegOr strengthens anti-trafficking, VAWC drive

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, April 19 (PIA) -- The Department of Justice (DOJ) here has been building up one case of online sexual exploitation of children (OSEC) that occurred in Jimalalud last year amid the COVID-19 pandemic. This was reported by Prosecutor Emylou Bendanillo of the Provincial Prosecutor's Office in a meeting of the Provincial Committee on Anti-Trafficking-Violence Against Women & Their Children (PCAT-VAWC) where member-agencies shared their undertakings against  trafficking in person (TIP). In an initial investigation, Bendanillo said the alleged trafficker received P10,000 per digital show session from the clients, but paid the child victim only P100. Bendanillo revealed that OSEC cases increased by 226% as the country is battling the COVID-9 pandemic. The prosecutor also reported that two minors aged 15 and 17 years old from Bindoy and Bacong towns, respectively, were recruited and brought to Manila to work as househelpers.
