Cebu City, Philippines - The Department of Labor and Employment Region 7 (DOLE-7) awarded the Kabuhayan grant of P500,000 to the Small Coconut Farmers and Farm Workers Association of Maravilla, Tabuelan, Cebu.
The said livelihood grant provides a working capital to support the association’s Cattle Fattening project with 15 heads of cattle as a starter, said DOLE-7 Regional Director Salome Siaton.
Aside from this project, the association is also engaged in cattle dispersal, goat raising, and free-range chickens.
The cattle fattening project was chosen due to the sufficiency of resources and guaranteed market.
This is made possible through the DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP) under its Kabuhayan program component, which is DOLE's contribution to the government agenda of inclusive growth through massive job generation and poverty reduction.
The Kabuhayan program or the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) provides grant assistance for livelihood and entrepreneurial ventures for vulnerable and marginalized workers.
The organization was able to receive the said amount as it is the maximum amount allocated for livelihood grants that fall under the Small Livelihood category.
Cebu Provincial Field Office OIC Chief Vivencio Lagahid and DILP Focal and Senior Labor and Employment Officer Seymoun Hamoy facilitated the grant of the award with grantee Association Pres. Amelita Jugan and its PRO Angeli Tores.
Jugan thanked DOLE-7 for providing additional income to their members. (PR/Kent Ugalde with reports from DOLE CPFO)
