This was disclosed by Assistant Provincial Health Officer and Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force-Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF-EID) Dr. Liland Estacion in her Oct. 8 virtual press conference.
The new cases were logged in Sta. Catalina (4), Siaton (1), Zamboanguita (3), Dauin (3), Bacong (2), Dumaguete City (14), Sibulan (29), San Jose (1), Tanjay City (3), Bais City (9), Bindoy (11), Ayungon (1), Jimalalud (3), La Libertad (1), Guihulngan City (3), and Canlaon City (34).
Meanwhile, the breakdown of the total 2,032 active cases are as follows: Basay (42), Bayawan City (323), Sta. Catalina, (123), Siaton (157), Zamboanguita (43), Dauin (11), Bacong (65), Valencia (56), Dumaguete City (154), Sibulan (137), San Jose (11), Amlan (66), Tanjay City (48), Pamplona (19), Bais City (51), Mabinay (56), Manjuyod (58), Bindoy (78), Ayungon (34), Tayasan (50), Jimalalud (47), La Libertad (63), Guihulngan City (102), Vallehermoso (63), and Canlaon City (239).
Estacion added that the overall bed occupancy rate for COVID-19 patients in all hospitals in Negros Oriental has reached 89%.
At Ace Dumaguete Doctors Hospital and Guihulngan District Hospital, occupancy rate has exceeded the maximum, with 107% and 130%, respectively.
On the other hand, additional four COVID-19 related mortalities were also recorded in the province, one each in Dumaguete City, Bais City, Siaton, and Bayawan City.
The total number of deaths in Negros Oriental caused by COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic is at 317.
Estacion renewed her call to the public to get vaccinated against the virus for an additional layer of protection and prevent severe symptoms of the virus.
“Ang ako ipahibalo sa katawhan ang atong mga Local Government Unit (LGUs) naa na sila vaccines allocated so whenever naa schedule palihug magpabakuna na ta tanan. Dili man 100 percent you na dili ka infected, you will be infected pero dili lang ta makadto sa severe (I would like to inform everybody that LGUs were already given their vaccine allocation. I urge everyone to get vaccinated whenever they have a schedule for vaccination. It’s not 100 percent that you won’t be able to contract the virus but the symptoms won’t be severe),” Estacion said.
She stressed that people should still follow proper health protocols despite being fully vaccinated and avoid gathering of people as much as possible.
Estacion also reported that the province has 64 new COVID-19 recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries to 12,635 since last year. (RAL/PIA7 Negros Oriental)
